“Vegetarian: The Slow Food Revolution” has prompted many to seek out sustainable foods and diets, and vegetarian options are no exception in the battle for healthy alternatives. Here are some nearby spots that will rev up your appetite.

Laut
15 East 17th Street
With most dishes around $9, this Union Square Thai eatery has great ambiance and a variety of options. All of the regular meat menu items come with the option of tofu or vegetables.

Kati Roll
The Indian version of a sub shop, Kati Roll serves up wraps of various curries rolled inside Indian flatbread, most under $10. The ingredients feature plenty of veggies like chickpeas, potatoes and cauliflower.

Hotel Tortuga

Every item on this menu has a vegetarian option and the meat can be replaced with tempeh. Good vegetarian Mexican food is hard to find in the city, but Hotel Tortuga offers grub under $10 that vegetarians can enjoy.

Maoz Vegetarian

This falafel spot allows you to choose various toppings for your eggplant or hummus sandwich, including chickpeas, cabbage, broccoli and eggplant. Maoz also offers many sauces, such as garlic and tahini. Make it a meal for $9.15, with Belgian fries and a beverage.

Bareburger

Have a hankering for a burger? Try Bareburger’s veggie burger ($ patties are $8.45). It’s delicious and can come with a variety of different toppings and sauces. Other vegetarian options include the black bean and mushroom burgers. Make sure to get fries and a milkshake with your meal!

NY Dosas
50 Washington Square South
Dosas are a form of spicy Indian crepes that are filled with potatoes and spices. This south Indian dosa cart is located right on Washington Square South and is completely vegetarian. The cart is extremely popular, so don’t be deterred if there is a line! Try the Masala Dosa, a rice and lentil crepe filled with potatoes ($5).  Read more ……
